Penatalaksanaan Fisioterapi pada Osteoarthtritis Genu Sinistra dengan Modalitas Ultrasound, Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) dan Terapi Latihan : Case Report

Osteoarthritis genu is a degenerative joint disease that is often experienced by the elderly and is characterized by pain, stiffness, and functional limitations, which often triggers the rejection of total knee replacement surgery by patients. This study aims to analyze the clinical profile of patients with genu grade 4 osteoarthritis patients as well as evaluate the effectiveness of non-surgical physiotherapy implementation towards a decrease in pain intensity and an increase in functional capacity. The method used is a case report (case report) with a single subject research approach to a 64-year-old female patient at the Surabaya Physiotherapy Clinic who was given four sessions of ultrasound, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), as well as exercise therapy (heel slide, open kinetic chain, and isometric exercise) for four sessions. The results of the evaluation showed a decrease in pain scores based on the visual analog scale (VAS), an increase in muscle strength through manual muscle testing (MMT), expansion of the scope of joint movement through goniometer measurement, a decrease in muscle spasms, and an increase in functional ability based on the WOMAC questionnaire from the heavy to medium category. The implications of this study show that the combination of electrotherapy and exercise therapy has proven to be effective as an alternative to non-surgical holistic management to improve the quality of life and functional independence of severe osteoarthritis patients who refuse operative measures.
