Abstract

Sectio caesarea (CS) is a surgical delivery method that continues to increase globally. World Health Organization (2021) states that 21% of deliveries are carried out via CS and is expected to increase to 29% by 2030. In Indonesia, 21.4% of mothers experience complications during childbirth, and in Cirebon City, 2,700 mothers gave birth in 2024. One of the main problems after CS is acute pain, which is still experienced by 60% of patients in the first 24 hours even though they have been given analgesics. Effective pain management is very important to support maternal recovery. One non-pharmacological method that has been proven effective is foot massage, which can provide relaxation and improve blood circulation. To determine the effectiveness of foot massage therapy in reducing acute pain in mothers after CS surgery. A case study was conducted on Mrs. L in the Endang Geulis room, Gunung Jati Hospital, Cirebon City. The intervention in the form of foot massage was carried out for 15 minutes, 2 times a day, for 3 consecutive days. Pain measurement was carried out using a numeric scale (NRS). Before the intervention, the patient complained of pain on a scale of 7 (moderate-severe). After three days of foot massage, the pain scale decreased to 3 (mild). The patient looked more comfortable, mobility improved, sleep quality improved, and no side effects were found during the procedure. Foot massage therapy has been proven effective in reducing acute pain in post-CS patients and can be used as a complementary intervention in maternity nursing care. Nurses are advised to use foot massage therapy as a non-pharmacological approach in post- CS pain management and to take regular skills training.
