Abstract

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) remain a major public health challenge that requires early detection and sustained prevention efforts, one of which is addressed through the government-run Free Health Check (Cek Kesehatan Gratis/CKG) program. The success of this program largely depends on how the community perceives susceptibility, severity, benefits, barriers, cues to action, and self-efficacy, in line with the components of the Health Belief Model (HBM), which ultimately shapes public attitudes toward NCD prevention. This study aimed to examine the relationship between community perceptions based on HBM components and attitudes toward NCD prevention in the working area of Puskesmas Genuk, Semarang. An analytical quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design was used, involving all eligible CKG participants selected through a total sampling technique, resulting in 150 respondents. Data were collected using a standardized questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability, then analyzed using the Chi-Square test at a 5% significance level. The results showed that perceived susceptibility, severity, benefits, cues to action, and self-efficacy were significantly associated with attitudes toward NCD prevention, whereas perceived barriers showed no significant association. Most respondents still exhibited a less-than-optimal attitude toward NCD prevention. These findings underline the importance of strengthening perception-based health education and promotion so that CKG utilization and community attitudes toward NCD prevention can be continuously improved.
