Abstract

The increasing use of online games among adolescents has raised concerns regarding its potential negative impacts, particularly the risk of aggressive behavior. Excessive and uncontrolled engagement in online gaming may develop into addictive behavior, which can affect emotional regulation and social functioning in students. This study aimed to examine the relationship between online game addiction and the risk of aggressive behavior among students at SMPN 11 Yogyakarta. A quantitative correlational study with a cross-sectional design was conducted. The sample consisted of 80 students selected through proportional stratified random sampling. Data were collected using an online game addiction questionnaire and the Aggression Questionnaire developed by Buss and Perry. Data analysis was performed using the Spearman Rank correlation test. The results indicated that most respondents experienced moderate levels of online game addiction and moderate levels of aggressive behavior risk. Statistical analysis revealed a significant positive correlation between online game addiction and the risk of aggressive behavior (p < 0.05). These findings suggest that higher levels of online game addiction are associated with an increased risk of aggressive behavior among adolescents. Therefore, preventive efforts involving parents, schools, and health professionals are essential to promote healthy gaming behaviors and reduce aggressive tendencies in students.
