Peran Guru Pendidikan Agama Islam dalam Meningkatkan Moral Siswa di SMP Hikmah Yapis Dok V Jayapura

This study aims to identify the moral condition of students and analyze the role of Islamic Religious Education teachers in improving students’ morality at SMP Hikmah Yapis Dok V Jayapura. This research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive design. The study was conducted at SMP Hikmah Yapis Dok V Jayapura, involving Islamic Religious Education teachers and students as research subjects. The sampling techniques used were purposive and snowball sampling. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The validity of the data was ensured through credibility, transferability, dependability, and confirmability tests.The results indicate that the implementation of Islamic Religious Education has not been fully effective in achieving its objectives of enhancing students’ spiritual potential and shaping them into faithful and pious individuals. This is reflected in the persistence of moral issues such as discrimination in social interactions, bullying, and acts of violence among students as well as between teachers and students. The role of Islamic Religious Education teachers in improving students’ morality includes providing role models, enforcing school rules, maintaining consistency and firmness, and collaborating with parents. These efforts are considered essential in fostering students’ character development and moral improvement.
